Is credit repair legal?
Yes, credit repair is absolutely legal. Credit repair is a request of creditors to prove a specific item/account exists. If a creditor or credit bureau is unable to provide the requested documentation, by law, they are required to remove any inaccurate information from your report. If an item/account cannot be proven, it does not exist.
What items can be removed?
Bankruptcies, judgments, evictions, tax liens, medical bills, foreclosures, repos, charge-offs, collections, inquiries, public records, etc. NO student loans, child support, or alimony can be removed, as this is considered a federal debt obligation.
Can I repair my own credit?
You bet you can! However, it is a very tedious and time consuming procedure. It can be very stressful, especially if you are not familiar with the process, and there is very little margin for error. If you have a lot of time on your hands, you are very detail oriented, you are willing to learn the laws and regulations, and can afford to make mistakes along the way, you may be up for the task. Otherwise you may want to consider hiring a professional.
What is the credit repair process?
STEP 1: Complete our online application.
STEP 2: Sign up with www.privacyguard.com.
STEP 3: We will contact you to provide you with free credit consultation.
STEP 4: If you are interested in enrolling in our program, we will send you an invoice. All services will begin as soon as the invoice is paid.
STEP 5: We will need additional information such as your physical address, date of birth, and Privacy Guard login information to dispute derogatory items and inquiries with the credit bureaus.
STEP 6: We will need copies of your driver's license, social security card, utility bill, and a notarized letter to dispute negative items with the credit bureaus. You can email or fax us this information.
STEP 7: You will have to notarize your dispute letters, so the bureaus will know it is YOU who is disputing this information. Unfortunately, we cannot sign documents on your behalf, so you'll have to get them signed in front of a notary.
STEP 8: Run a new Privacy Guard report every 35 days of enrolling in our program. Do not run more than one new report a month.
STEP 9: If we do not remove at least one negative item or your score does not improve within four months of our Derogatory Removal Program, then we will issue you a full refund. Do I have to mail out my own dispute letters?
Yes, we have found that notarized letters offer more effective results. Notary services require proper identification from the party seeking this service (you must be present to present YOUR identification).
Is it better to mail or fax the dispute letters?
We advise our clients to do both. Sending the dispute letters via mail and fax ensures that the credit bureaus receive them.
Can I pull my credit report from my credit reporting service during this process?
Yes, we recommend you request a new credit report every 35 days using your www.privacyguard.com. Again, only request ONE report every 35 days. As you see negative items being removed, please celebrate and share your results on our Facebook Page!
Am I able to apply for financing (have someone pull my credit) during the credit repair process?
All clients are asked not to seek credit (having someone pull your credit, soft or hard pull) during the derogatory or inquiry removal process.
Will I be contacted by any creditors or any of the three bureaus?
You may receive correspondence via mail from a creditor or credit bureau. Please fax, scan and email all correspondence to firstname.lastname@example.org/Fax 817-977-7057. Please do not send pictures of anything via camera phones.
If I receive correspondence from a bureau or creditor, what do I do?
DO NOT personally correspond with any creditors or credit bureaus during this process. If you find yourself being questioned by either of these parties, inform them that they must place any correspondence in writing and forward this information to you. Forward any contact from these parties to email@example.com.
